No family should make this choice on a guess

Subject choices are made at 12 and at 15, often in a few rushed weeks, and they shape the options that come after. Our mission is to give every family the full picture first: who their child is, what each choice asks of them, and what to expect next.

Shane, founder of SubjectMatch.ie

Why I started SubjectMatch

I'm Shane. I finished school not long ago, so I remember these choices clearly. I picked my subjects with a timetable, a few rumours and a guess. Nobody had sat down and worked out how I learned, or what each subject would ask of me two years on.

That experience sparked a simple question: why should families have to piece together subject information themselves, when the decision matters so much to the student sitting beside them?

Looking back, my parents and I weren't short of care. We were short of information. Everything we needed to know existed somewhere, spread across school letters, websites and other people's opinions. Nobody had put it together about me.

That's what SubjectMatch does. It lifts the curtain on these choices, so they feel simple instead of overwhelming. One report, written about your child, that you can read at the kitchen table and bring into the school.

It's the report I wish had been on our kitchen table.

What we're here to change

Choices made on what friends are picking

So we start with your child: how they work, what helps and what gets in the way, backed by their own answers.

Advice that isn't about your child

So every page is written about them by name, from their answers and yours, not about students in general.

Parents left on the outside

So the quiz is something you do together, and a whole part of the report is written for you.

Our promise to parents

The standards every report is held to.

We'll tell you how sure we are. Every finding shows how strongly your child's answers back it.
We'll write about your child, never a type. No labels, no boxes.
We'll only use official sources for facts about subjects, exams and entry requirements.
We'll tell you what only the school can answer, so the meeting with them goes further.
We'll never sell your answers. They're used only to write your report.
If anything is unclear, we'll rewrite it. Just reply to the report email.

Who's behind it

Shane founded SubjectMatch and is responsible for developing the assessment and report experience. The aim is to give students and parents explanations they can question, discuss and actually use.

SubjectMatch is founder-led. We use a structured assessment, documented subject information and report checks. Any independent professional involvement will be identified only once confirmed.

Made in Ireland, for Irish families. Find out how our reports are made or contact us if you have a question.
